Transfer news for Thursday, 17th September 2020: Tottenham are on the verge of signing Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale on loan.
Bale, 31, left Spurs for Real in 2013 having scored 56 goals in 203 appearances during a six-year spell with the club.
And he is keen to return to London after being frozen out by boss Zinedine Zidane.
According to Sky Sports, Bale is waiting in Madrid for the green light to fly to the capital to tie up the deal and join his new team-mates.
The Welshman’s agent Jonathan Barnett said: “There’s a long way to go on some issues, but without doubt Gareth is closer to leaving Madrid than at any time in the last seven years.
“The deal is complicated, but there’s reason to believe it is close and things could move very quickly if discussions continue to go well.”
With Bale (pictured above) seemingly on his way in, both Danny Rose and Dele Alli could be on the way out.
Rose, 30, is set to join Genoa after being overlooked for a squad number, while Alli has not been included in Jose Mourinho’s plans for tonight’s Europa League qualifier against Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
According to The Mirror, the Serie A side are in advanced talks with Spurs and are open to a permanent switch as a loan move seems unlikely with Rose only having a year left on his deal.
The left-back was loaned to Newcastle in January but they opted against signing him at the end of the season.
Alli, 24, had been considered as a potential sweetener in Tottenham’s move to bring Bale back to the club.
But the Daily Mail claim the England midfielder appears more likely to be shipped out on loan to long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain or Inter Milan in an attempt to reinvigorate his career.
The Sun report Rob Holding is ready to snub a loan move and fight for his place at Arsenal.
Holding, 24, started the Gunners’ opening day victory over Fulham in place of the injured David Luiz.
He also played the full 90 minutes as Mikel Arteta’s side lifted the Community Shield with a win over Liverpool.
Yet that has not stopped speculation that the ex-Bolton man is set for the Emirates exit.
West Ham have been linked with the centre-back but he is keen to prove his worth to Arteta.
According to the Daily Express, the Gunners are stepping up their efforts to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
Technical director Edu has spoken to the player’s representatives but personal terms have yet to be agreed.
Various sources claim Chelsea could use Fikayo Tomori to get a deal for Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy over the line.
The Blues are determined to land Mendy to challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga for the No1 spot at Stamford Bridge.
But they may now have to agree to let Tomori, 22, join the French club on a season-long loan to ensure they sign the 28-year-old shot-stopper.
The Standard claim Everton are also interested in picking up Tomori, who has fallen further down the pecking order at Chelsea following the arrival of Thiago Silva.
Although he has so far refused to comment on speculation regarding the young centre-back, Toffess boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bolster his defence.
He said: “There is a possibility to find a centre-back and I think we have to.”
