Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has stated that his team would try to acquire a new midfielder in January.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is due to leave Arsenal for a loan move to Roma, while Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.
As a result, Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga, together with 18-year-old Charlie Patino, are the club’s only senior midfield options at the moment, and Arteta is hoping for reinforcements.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest, Arteta said: “We are very, very short at the moment. We are going to move and look for options because we are very short there.”
Patino is looking forward to making his full Arsenal debut when the Gunners visit the City Ground for the third round, and the teenager has heaped praise on Martin Odegaard ahead of the match.
Arteta, on the other hand, has confessed that Arsenal are short on numbers due to injuries and COVID-related absences.
