causes of insecurity in Nigeria ? This article carefully Discuss The Causes Of Insecurity In The Country and How we can take to tackle this problem.

The country has faced a lot of insecurity challenges. This is because citizens are open to danger or threat; lack of protection, sometimes, lack of confidence. Nigeria is being referred to the giant of Africa but the unfortunate thing is that the country does not live up to its identity as the giant of Africa. Citizens are living in fear facing a lot of insecurities that have almost taken over the country. These causes of insecurity in the country would be discussed in this Assignment.

This assignment only outlined and discusses only the 10 major causes of insecurity in the country (Nigeria), and how it can curbed.

10 Major Causes Of Insecurity In The Country

Some of the problems in Nigeria and solutions are discussed below:

  1. Unemployment

In Nigeria, the overwhelming unemployment rate in the country is capable of causing panic. The issue is especially obvious when it comes to Nigerian youths. According to the statistics, every tenth young citizen of the country is officially unemployed.

If we consider unemployment in Nigeria, causes, effects and solutions, it is evident that rapid growth in population is a significant cause of this menace.

Unfortunately, a lot of people have been laid off, while new jobs are not created.

In combating the situation, it is the responsibility of the government to create new jobs as well as the citizens to create their own opportunities through entrepreneurship.

  1. Corruption

Corruption has already become a part of life in the country. Unfortunately, it forms part of the economic problems in Nigeria today. Research made me to understand that In 2019, Transparency International placed Nigeria on 146th position out of 198 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index with a score of 26 out of 100.

Corruption can only be curbed only when we have selfless leaders who will go the extra mile to effect change in different tiers of government.

  1. Imbalance

Imbalance is lack of proportion or relation between corresponding things. In other words, if there is an imbalance in a situation, the things involved are not the same size, or are not the right size in proportion to each other. In this case, for instance a country can be imbalanced if the Federal Government make use an oil producing state and fail to use their oil to develop their society. People of these regions feel cheated because of that. They want to take justice into their hands. That is why they vandalize oil pipelines.

The Federal Government should deal with this problem appropriately by using a significant way and that is is to balance the development of all regions of the country.

  1. Weak Judicial System

The Weak Judicial System is one of the major causes of insecurity in Nigeria. People feel insecure when criminals and terrorists go free. Many evil-minded people think that money can buy freedom in the country, and unfortunately, the corrupt system proves this line of thought. Rich or wealthy people can buy their freedom in the country while the poor cannot and the masses do not feel secure about.

The judicial system in the country should be changed. There may be only one answer to that which is transparency.  The Federal Government should make sure a judge’s decision and power is transparent.

  1. “Open” borders.

The country’s borders are not well-guarded. Insurgents from other countries can easily penetrate the country. In the North East, the situation is particularly perilous. The federal government will not be able to secure the borders with enough troops. Terrorism in the country is primarily caused by porous coastal borders.

The Federal Government should increase the number of troops that guard borders. It should also train people to protect their regions from insurgents.

  1. A high Influx of Arms

This is a complex problem. Here, those called smugglers use porous coastal borders of the country to sell arms.  They provide pistols, shotguns, rifles, assault rifles, grenades, and explosives used against the people and military forces.

The Federal Government may need to ask help from residents of affected areas to patrol the borders together.

  1. Narcotics

Narcotic trafficking is one of the causes of insecurity in Nigeria. Criminal groups are involved in the smuggling of illegal substances to Europe, Asia, South Africa, and North America. Nigerian gangs are one of the largest distributors of opium in the world. Citizens should fight this criminal trafficking, which is not affecting just the country but the entire world.

To combat criminals, the federal government should begin cooperating with other countries. It will be beneficial to launch an international investigation into the situation and establish task forces to deal with it.

  1. Slavery

This is a condition in which one human being was owned by another. For instance, women in the country can be tricked into migrating to other regions in the country. They hope to find good jobs, but, instead of promised jobs, they are forced to sell their bodies for money. Some of them are even sold to foreign brothels.  The situation with human trafficking and forced labour in the country is horrible. Citizens should fight these crimes.

Cases of human trafficking or slavery should be reported. The Federal Government, individual need not be indifferent to this problem. People are born free and must live free.

  1. Criminal situation

For the last few years, citizens have been victims of robberies, which sometimes happen in daylight.

Organized criminal gangs take over the streets of the country. People do not feel safe when walking on the roads. Corrupt government officials cannot provide help to Nigerians to fight with these criminals.

The Federal Government should pay attention to this problem by providing Arm forces on the roads and streets.

  1. Terrorist threat

Terrorism in the country is not a new problem. Boko Haram and Niger Delta Avengers are two prominent terrorist organizations that cause the most damage to the country.

The Federal Government keeps fighting with terrorists. Nigerian soldiers die every day for their country. Now, it is a matter of time before the terrorists will be eliminated.

When we identify the origins of these Insecurities and explore solutions, it is clear that the country would get to it statue and individual, citizens will live happily while population would be increased.
