1. Nigeria Making Progress To Reverse US Visa Restrictions – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday noted that the Federal Government is making efforts to ensure the reversal of the United States’ suspension of the issuance of “immigrant visas” to Nigerian passport holders.
The President stated this in a statement released through his spokesman, Femi Adesina, after receiving the report of the committee on Citizen Data Management and Harmonisation chaired by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
2. UNILAG Senate Rejects Acting Vice-Chancellor
The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Thursday rejected the appointment of Professor Omololu Soyombo as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The Senate during a meeting on Thursday rejected the removal of Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as Vice-Chancellor of the institution by the Governing Council.

3. Mailafia: NBC Fines Broadcast Outfit ₦5m For Hate Speech
The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has sanctioned an indigenous radio station Nigeria Info, 99.3FM to the tune of five million naira.
TrueTalk Nigeria understands the regulatory organization’s sanction comes after it accused the private radio station of allowing Dr. Mailafia Obadiah to promote unverifiable and inciting views that can cause crime, public disorder.
4. Fighter Jets Destroy Boko Haram Storage Facility
The Nigerian Military has revealed that the air component of the Operation Lafiya Dole has destroyed the Boko Haram storage facility in Yamud along Gulumba Gana-Kumshe axis of Borno State.
The Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, in a statement noted that the operation was carried out after a series of credible intelligence reports.
According to the statement, “the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs’) logistics storage facility and neutralized several of their fighters at Yamud along the Gulumba Gana-Kumshe axis of Borno State.
5. NJC Asks Supreme Court, Others To Appoint 22 Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 22 judges for the Supreme Court and various other courts in the country.
This was made known in a statement on Thursday by the Director of Information of the NJC, Mr Soji Oye.
According to Oye, the NJC made the recommendation to the Supreme Court at its second virtual meeting held on August 11 and 12, 2020.
The meeting which was chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, recommended a total of 22 judicial officers across various courts.
6. Revenue Generating Agencies Diverting Revenue Unnecessarily – Gbajabiamila
Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Thursday noted that some agencies in the country are diverting funds for unnecessary expenditures and forcing the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to take loans.
The Speaker stated this at the commencement of the dialogue session on Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) organized by the Committee on Finance.
The dialogue session is for revenue consideration with heads of revenue-generating agencies in attendance.
The embattled Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has headed for the court following his removal from office by the university governing board.
Recall that the governing council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Wednesday sacked the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
Ogundipe hired leading constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, to challenge his alleged illegal removal from office and redress the wrong done to him.
8. Don’t Use Mailafia As A Scapegoat – Shehu Sani Warns Northern Governors
Shehu Sani, the former Senator that represented Kaduna Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly has warned Northern Governors to focus on solving security challenges in the region.
He warned them not to use the case of Obadiah Mailafia who alleged that a northern governor is the commander of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group as an excuse not to solve the challenges of insecurity in their domain.
Senator Sani cautioned the governors against getting distracted by the attention generated by Mailafia’s submission on the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, Sani tod the governors to focus on ending the incessant cases of bloodshed, banditry, kidnapping, and others plaguing the region.
9. ‘There Is More To Come’ – President Buhari Tells Nigerians On Infrastructure
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, August 13 assured Nigerians of his commitment to putting down more on infrastructure in his second tenure.
TrueTALK nIGERIA understands that the president made the declaration in Abuja today during the virtual inauguration of the new headquarters building of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
According to President Buhari in the statement made available to newsmen by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, his regime will spend more on infrastructure across the country.
10. Insecurity: CAN Declares August 23rd As National Day Of Prayer And Fasting
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared August 23 a day of collective intercessory prayer for Nigeria over insecurity situation in the country.
The General Secretary, CAN, Daramola Bade, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Bade, who announced the collective prayer session of 15 minutes for Nigeria on the 23rd August, noted that the aim was to tell God in one accord, to have His way and do His will in Nigeria.
The association stressed the need to pray to God for a lasting solution on the issue of security challenges in the country.
